Fifty-one days after devastating floods swept across Sumatra, the impact remains profound. Homes, schools, and vital infrastructure were destroyed within hours, forcing families to pause their dreams and daily routines. What was once stability has turned into uncertainty for millions striving to recover.

More than 175,000 homes were damaged, 3,700 schools were buried in mud, and 1,666 road access points were cut off entirely. As a result, nearly 3 million people across Sumatra have had their lives disrupted, making this one of the most severe humanitarian crises in the region in recent years.

Although the floods have faded from international headlines, recovery is far from over. Human Initiative continues to support affected communities by operating community kitchens, providing clean water, establishing temporary learning spaces, and distributing essential hygiene supplies. To date, more than 200,000 people have been reached through these ongoing recovery efforts.

Over 20,000 supporters have already stepped forward to help Sumatra rebuild. Continued support is still urgently needed so more families can restore their livelihoods, regain access to education, and rebuild their lives with dignity.
