27 May 2025

Tsukuba, May 25, 2025 — Human Initiative (HI) Japan took part in the annual Indonesia–Japan Friendship Festival, held on Sunday, May 25, 2025, at Tsukuba Center Square, Ibaraki Prefecture. The event was organized by IPEMI (Indonesian Muslim Women Entrepreneurs Association) Japan and has been running for four consecutive years.

The festival brought together Indonesian citizens (WNI) and local Japanese residents, with around 600 Indonesians living in Tsukuba attending the event. The event was also graced by the presence of Mr. Hirofumi Nemoto, director of the ibaraki international association, who expressed his appreciation for the cultural and humanitarian collaboration showcased.

A variety of Indonesian cultural performances and traditional culinary delights were featured throughout the day, drawing enthusiastic interest from both Indonesian and Japanese visitors.

HI Japan’s participation focused on introducing the meaning and impact of qurban, not only as a religious practice but as a humanitarian effort to help those in need. While inviting Indonesian citizens to perform their qurban through the Sebar Qurban program, HI Japan also explained the program to Japanese attendees.

One local visitor shared their impression after learning about the initiative, saying:
“Subarashii katsudou yattemasune.”
(“That’s a wonderful activity!”)

“We want to show that qurban is not just a ritual, but a meaningful act of sharing that can be appreciated universally,” said Widi Mochamad Sugri, Country Manager of Human Initiative Japan.

To further serve the community, HI Japan also distributed free bottled water to visitors, adding comfort and hospitality to the festive atmosphere.

This event underscores Human Initiative’s commitment to fostering global understanding and compassion through simple but impactful actions.
