Trapped in Floods for Two Days, a 60-Year-Old Elderly Woman Successfully Rescued

01 December 2025

Heavy rain on 24 November 2025 hit Meunasah Jojo in Mutiara Timur District, Pidie Regency, Aceh. The river overflowed, and water entered the residential area. The water level rose quickly and blocked the main roads, so many families lost the chance to evacuate early.

In this situation, Mrs. Halimah, a 60-year-old elderly woman, was staying at home for medical recovery. Her body was still weak, and she could not stand. When the floodwater started to reach the yard, she was unable to move to a higher place. Her child, who lived with her, tried to find a way out, but the strong current forced them to stay inside the house.

For two days, Mrs. Halimah survived with limited food. She listened to sounds from outside while hoping that rescue help was coming. She also worried about her children and grandchildren who were affected by the flood in another area and could not come to help.

On 26 November 2025, the evacuation team traveled through the floodwaters and finally reached her house. They helped Mrs. Halimah leave the house and brought her to a safe place where her condition could be taken care of properly. She looked calmer once she was away from the flooded area.

Mrs. Halimah’s experience reminds us that elderly people and those with weak health conditions need extra attention during emergencies. Some of them do not have the strength to save themselves, so humanitarian support plays an important role in protecting lives.

Human Initiative continues to assist flood-affected residents in Pidie according to their needs on the ground, working together with local volunteers so that support reaches vulnerable groups. This approach focuses on collaboration and community solidarity.

Human Initiative invites the public, communities, and businesses to support the recovery of flood-affected residents through human-initiative.jp. Every contribution means a lot for families like Mrs. Halimah who are trying to recover after the disaster.
