Disaster Response Continues as Human Initiative Enters the Second Phase of Emergency Relief
The extension of the emergency response period by local governments in three affected provinces until the end of December shows that communities are still facing serious challenges after the disaster. The affected area is wide, and each region has different conditions and recovery stages. Because of this, needs in the field continue to change.
As of today, Human Initiative’s (HI) response has reached Day 18. In the first phase of emergency response (Emergency Response Phase 1), the main focus was saving lives through search and rescue (SAR) activities and providing basic needs, especially food, for disaster survivors.
As the situation moves into the post-disaster period, community needs have become more complex. Many homes and public facilities are damaged, and mud and debris remain in many residential areas. These conditions make it difficult for people to return to their daily activities.
To respond to these needs, Human Initiative has entered Emergency Response Phase 2 and expanded its support. Assistance includes Shelter Kits, Bedding Kits, Dignity Kits, Community Working Tools, and debris and mud cleaning activities. HI also supports access to clean water through Water Points and Water Trucking Distribution, while continuing food assistance.
In the next stage, as local markets and economic activities begin to recover, Human Initiative will support livelihood recovery based on community needs. This approach allows families to choose their own priorities in a respectful and dignified way.
Through this phased response, Human Initiative remains committed to supporting disaster-affected communities during both emergency and recovery periods. Collaboration through human-initiative.jp is welcomed to strengthen ongoing response and recovery efforts.
