Japanese Partners Boost Response Planning and Field Support for Sumatra Floods at HI Medan

10 December 2025

Human Initiative (HI) Medan recently welcomed Shiho Sihibahara-san and Nana-san from our Japanese partner organization, who met with Mas Hendri to discuss the planned humanitarian response in the three provinces severely affected by the recent major floods in Sumatra. This meeting reinforced coordination and ensured that every field action will be carried out swiftly, with clear direction, and in line with the real needs of affected communities.

The floods have had a profound impact on survivors. Many families were forced to leave their homes because their houses were flooded or severely damaged. Daily routines have come to a halt, access to public facilities has been disrupted, and many people evacuated without enough essential items. As a result, basic needs such as food, clean water, hygiene items, and healthcare services have become urgently necessary.

During the meeting, the teams exchanged information about urgent needs, the current conditions of the community, and priority assistance that must be provided immediately. They also discussed the obstacles on the ground, in order to plan a more strategic response that truly addresses the emergency faced by the survivors.

On this occasion, Shiho Sihibahara-san and Nana-san expressed a strong commitment to support the response on the ground. They plan to participate directly in the distribution of aid together with the Human Initiative team and to visit affected communities, demonstrating their concrete support for the recovery efforts.

This collaboration shows that disaster response requires collective action and solid coordination among all parties. With appropriate support, the recovery process in Sumatra can proceed faster and deliver real impact for those affected.

Let us collaborate and bring meaningful solutions to the people in need through human-initiative.jp.
